Blackpowder, sixguns, leverguns, ...shooting cars, drinking targets....just another day in the Heart of Dixie. I'm a former (mounted) Confederate Cavlary reenactor and a student of Southern history. I still smell the campfire and the powder burning.
There will be be primers and caps struck. There will be lead sent downrange. There will be a periodic injection of politics with a Southern flavor sure to upset the delicate and the degenerate. ALL good folks of ALL nationalities, regions, colors, and creed are welcome and appreciated.
I acquired the nickname "Plowboy" back around 2000 when Cledus T. Judd put out a song with that title. It was my CB handle. Just as with most people in my hometown of Hackleburg, nicknames and handles become your name, even to people who knew you long before it's adoption.

John Taffin's Perfect Packin' Pistols..my take.
I had a model 10 S&W, and reblued it. It came out blue like charcoal blue. 🔵 I figured my M10 need rebluing. It came out black. I forgot to do the side plate. The next day I did the side plate and it came out charcoal blue. For the life of me I couldn't figure it out.
Totally agree! Revolvers have always been called Pistols. In Spanish Pistolero means a pistol Totten hombre. Pistol = Pistola 😊
That is the exact reason I upgraded my grip frame to one from rw grip frames, the xr3 was just too short and small and couldn't keep a consistent grip. And I didn't realize just how much it didn't fit until I got my other one finished. I also have to paint my front sight it is such a huge game changer. I am getting closer to 50 faster than I care to think about and the eyes are fading fast. So a pin on blade would be much appreciated.
@@jeremyp2295 The way I modified my other BH grips cured the too short issue, for me. Removing the tail flare, a bit off the front edge of the grip frame, and running the wood grip flush with the bottom of the frame, was all it took.
@@plowboysghost I probably could have done that if I had the larger xr3red grip and it's something that I will try when I get another blackhawk but i have the flattop 44 special that had the smaller xr3 frame. But that's the great thing about the blackhawk there is a ton of things we can do to tailor it to our needs. And if it doesn't work can be put back with very little issues
I am with you on the grips. The black plastic grips are not something anyone would choose. Thanks for the video.

that safety notch is just as safe as an internal safety on an autoloader. Hell! I happen to have a 380 pistol with a de-cocker and the hammer falls down onto the safety notch with never ever having an unintended discharge. I own a Pietta 1873 convertible 357 magnum and 9mm cylinders and I always carry six with the safety notch position on the Hammer. Most of my rifles have Leupold scopes. I miss the old line like that with the small turret caps. They were sleek and elegant. The new scopes they make are too bulky.

Yep, very tired of this brutal humid summer also! That’s a great setup and I love my Rugers also but it’s a shame that I have to fit most of my Vaqueros and Blackhawks with Altamont grips that usually need some filing. Go get em!
@@tripbinford7610 Will do. Thanks!
I agree with you about the grips and front sight. A set of basic wood grips and a front sight that the owner can change should be standard. It really wouldn't cost Ruger that much to do it and they can add the cost into the price.

@@mountainmanmilitia3806 Thank you.
Can't bring myself to like the newer rugers if they aren't the older m77 with the tang safety or the three screw revolvers I want nothing to do with them just My preference like the marlin lever action and it's crossbolt safety if it has that I don't even care to look at it
My Blackhawk complaint also. Flat bottom grips and why Ruger doesn’t use the same sight that is on the stainless gun is beyond me. Seems like it would be easier for them just to use the same sight on both models.

I Love your videos about the 45LC, It was my first cartidge a loaded for! What a joy to learn more about my favorite cartridge!
@@timouellette5865 Thank you.
I think 44 magnums and 454 casulls are great. My problem with that is getting multiple shots on target in quick succession and in the case of a reload. Which makes me lean towards a semi auto. What I would choose is a 460 Rowland with hardcast bullets. You can get them in higher capacity guns like the FN 45 or regular 1911s. The problem is finding out how to get them to run good. Once you figure out all the things, it’s the best option in my opinion. Because desert eagles are too big and too unreliable. The 460 Rowland option has less recoil and the ability to have a spare magazine or two for a very fast reload
@@darthjoshua6663 I'm in the camp that prefers five or six more powerful , much heavier bullets over a higher capacity gun that is delivering a round with less power that requires both perfect function and the time to take advantage of the higher capacity. If I only have time for one round on target, make mine more than one 220-230 gr .40/10mm.
@@plowboysghost I understand the principle of wanting more power and he absolute certainty in terms of reliability. But 460 Rowland is no slouch. It’s squarely in 41 magnum power levels. And at the heels of regular 44 magnum loads. Not to mention you get lighter trigger pulls than a double action revolver. Everything can be accounted for with proper training except a reload. The fastest pistol reload will beat the fastest revolver reload. And from what I’ve seen with handgun encounters involving bears, it usually required more than six rounds. Or at least involved more than six rounds
@@darthjoshua6663 .460 Rowland is limited by bullet weight...if the task at hand is penetration. My preference is 300-gr minimum, though a 293 gr .41 Mag has outstanding sectional density (!)....but the heavier the bullet, the better. Also, I don't know how large of a meplat you can get to function in that .460. I want a solid bullet with a huge meplat. People in this day and age put WAY too much value on magazine capacity and number of rounds down range . Fast follow up shots are more of a concern if you are shooting a less than ideal round and /or can't hit with it. Volume of fire is compensation for lack of cartridge performance and/or marksmanship that requires more faith in reliability than I have for autoloading pistols after shooting autoloading pistols for 32-33 years. It also requires time you may not have, in an attack, to be any advantage. People can, have, and will continue to stop bear attacks with cartridges from. 22 LR- .500 Magnum and they will continue to do so with auto pistols and revolvers. ...no matter what becomes trendy on the Internet or what some gun writer/ self-proclained RUclips influencer says we need.
@@plowboysghost you can actually shoot 305 grain hardcast loads out of the 460 Rowland. They also have 280 and 290 grain loads. Not sure how good the meplat is, but that’s still some serious power. I would say volume of fire isn’t generally as important when dealing with regular self defense situations. But I feel when it comes to grizzly bears, the more the better. No matter what the cartridge. Brown bears are much less of an issue. Still, shot placement is everything. But stress has a way of making the most seasoned marksman lose their cool. Not everyone can be Dirty Harry. Generally I agree with you, I love revolvers and 44 magnum and 454. But I do find the benefits of the 460 Rowland quite attractive.
@@darthjoshua6663 I saw that Aria Ballistic Engineering offers a heavy .460 R load. I considered turning a .45 ACP into a Rowland, several years ago, but I saw/read of reliability issues....plus, I'm just a revolver guy at my core. I'm currently studying on ordering a good holster for my 5.5" BFR in .500 JRH.
